Graciela Hernandez- Cruz‏ is trying to become the candidate for the NDP in the 2019 election in the riding of Ottawa-Centre.

This is her bio from her website:

My name is Graciela Hernandez -Cruz: I am a 26 year old, queer, racialized woman, and I am running to be the next federal NDP candidate for Ottawa Centre in 2019.  We deserve a city, a country and a world that works for all of us, not just the wealthy few.

Our children deserve a better future and it is time to be bold, it is the time to be daring, it is time to reimagine a better world.  It is time to re-envision the way we do politics.

I will not wait any longer to see an elected official in Ottawa whose words are grounded in feminism, but whose actions don’t follow, whose words call for climate action, but whose decisions destroy our planet and our environment.  I will fight to have the voices of our community to be heard because I believe in a type of politics that is grounded in principles and passion. This is why I am running for office.

I am stepping up because I believe that people like me should have a seat and a voice at the table.  I am running because as an immigrant, as the daughter of a mother who fought for social justice in El Salvador and as someone who has fought for social justice issues in our city and across the world.  I have experienced first-hand  how the voices of so many of us have been ignored for far too long.

Through my social justice activism in Ottawa, I have met some incredible people and seen  their commitment to fight for a better city and a better world.  I have experienced how our  community is fueled by a sense of solidarity, love and resilience. I am inspired every day to see people’s relentless drive to make this a better world despite adversity.

We can win this fight, but we must act now. We can grow this movement and we can do politics differently.  Never forget the power of community and what we can accomplish when we work, together. Let’s do this!

In solidarity/ con solidaridad/ en solidarité,

Graciela Hernandez- Cruz
